Weekend Getaway

Calvin and I celebrated our ten year anniversary the end of June. I wanted to do something to celebrate it and thought a weekend away, just the two of us, would be perfect. We haven't ever done anything like this since we've had kids. And we've never had a night with no kids since Coye was born. We did some searching to try and figure out what we wanted to do. I at first thought about going on a cruise, but decided that Calvin would probably go crazy with all of the laying around, since he is a guy who loves to be busy. So after a couple of weeks of looking, we came across this cottage you could rent in Galena. It was on a lake, which Calvin loved. It was kind of off by itself (even though it was actually pretty close to another property). It had an outdoor private hot tub. We booked it and went away last weekend. The cottage was beautiful and perfect for a weekend retreat. There was just enough stuff to keep us busy. I jokingly told Calvin that we went on more "dates" this weekend than we have in a long time and he'd be set for a while. We shopped, went miniature golfing and bowling, saw a movie, played a few slots at a casino (which was crazy by the way and not that enjoyable), and toured President Grant's house. Although it was strange to not have the kids with us and we missed them like crazy, it was nice to be together as a couple and reconnect - with no distractions. We definitely need to do that more often!

Foyer and staircase up to the master suite - Calvin loved the cottage because it was a log cabin - his favorite kind of house.
Master suite with king size bed

Master bath - I could so get used to this! (There was a jacuzzi tub on the other side.)
