Fourth of July

On the fourth, we made our annual trip to the Watseka 4th of July parade. The kids love going because they can stock up on candy, while I like going to watch them have so much fun. My parents came up and went to the parade with us, and then Calvin's parents met us there. The kids loved the parade, although Coye was terrified of the sirens from the fire trucks. He held onto Dad for dear life and wouldn't let go until they had gone by. Once they passed, he definitely enjoyed it more and attempted to fill his bucket with candy just like his sisters. After the parade, we went home and grilled hot dogs and brats. Then we played games while Calvin painted the dining room (it was cool that weekend and I wanted to be able to paint while we could keep the windows open. Later that evening, we headed over to Calvin's aunt and uncle's house. They had recently bought a house on a lake and had everyone over for a cookout. It was a lot of fun relaxing and visiting. They have a pontoon boat, so they took us out on a ride around the lake. Once it got dark, we were able to see the fireworks from their front yard. Coye wasn't too sure about those either and spent most of the time sitting on Calvin's lap with one eye covered. The girls, of course, loved them! It was so nice to not have to fight traffic to leave once the fireworks were over. Hopefully they  make this an annual event because we loved it!
