Spelling Bee

Last week Aubrey was in the Lutheran Spelling Bee. This spelling bee includes St. Paul's and two other nearby Lutheran schools. Each school chooses one student from each grade to go to the bee. They then separate the children into two groups - first through fourth and fifth through eighth. The children are given grade appropriate words but compete against each other. Aubrey was nervous but excited too. She's a pretty good speller and we practiced her 180 word list, so she was prepared. She looked so cute up there on stage and did a fabulous job. She was one of six children (they started with twelve) who continued to get word after word correct, so the judges decided to move to challenge words. Her first challenge word was "scent". They used it in a sentence, but Aubrey didn't know how to spell it so she spelled it "sent" and was then out. I was so proud of her though - she did so well. And the best part was that she was very proud of herself.
