First Combine Ride

Harvest has officially begun around here! The fields have dried out enough for them to get back in and start combining. On Saturday, Calvin was back in the fields. The girls rode with him last week, but Coye and I didn't get a chance, so I decided to take all the kids out there and ride a few rounds. The girls of course loved it. Coye did too. He watched the bean head spin round and round before falling asleep and sleeping the rest of the time we rode. He was pretty cute!

School Routine

We are starting to get into our school routine. I'm still not thrilled with Aubrey going to school every day all day, but we are getting used to her being gone during the day. For the first few weeks, Chloe followed me around like a lost puppy wanting me to play with her constantly, but we've now figured out a good balance between me playing with her and her playing by herself. Coye's also got a pretty good eating/napping schedule. He tends to take a longer afternoon nap, so I generally get a little stretch to get a few things done while he's napping. We haven't been up to too much lately - it's kind of nice being able to stay at home and get things done around the house. Even though my staying home means making at least two trips to school every day. :)

4 Months Old!!

This month Coye turned four months. Four months! Crazy how fast time flies by. I think I say that every month, but I really am shocked by the fact that he's this old already. He went for his four month well check this week and is doing great. He now weighs 14 pounds and 7 ounces and is 26 1/2 inches long. He's in the 50th percentile for weight and the 90th percentile for height. He's getting so big and filled out! He rolled over twice for the doctor, but he doesn't do that much at home. He loves people and smiles pretty easily at anyone who talks to him. He is very ticklish and laughs when you either tickle him or laugh at him. He's becoming more vocal and coos and squeals. His most favorite place to be is laying on the ground. He loves to stretch out under his gym or just look around. He's started to roll onto his side, but doesn't yet roll from his tummy to his back. He's a pretty happy baby overall. Since school's started, he hasn't been sleeping as good at night. He used to only get up once, but for the past couple of weeks he's been getting up twice. It's been a rough adjustment for me and I'm hoping that he starts sleeping better soon.

Random

Chloe's been wanting glasses ever since Aubrey got hers. One of the girls in church had an old pair of fashion glasses that she couldn't use anymore, so she gave them to Chloe. She loves them!

Coye was crying during supper, so Aubrey finished eating and then said she would take Coye into the living room and entertain him while I finished eating and cleaned up the kitchen. She did an awesome job and he quit crying! She even entertained Chloe too! Note the rattles on Coye's wrists. Apparently she put some on his ankles too but he kicked them off. :)

Calvin's Broken Nose

So two weeks ago Calvin was clipping on a heifer that was going to a sale and got kicked in the face. His nose swelled up and he had a cut on the bridge of his nose. He, of course, didn't stop working and refused to go to the emergency room. It didn't bleed much and didn't look crooked so he didn't think his nose was broken. The next day it was still swollen and the cut was still bleeding some, but he wasn't in much pain. The following day he started getting a black eye and I started worrying again that his nose might be broken and he needed to get it looked at. My theory was that we've already met our deductible for the year so why not get it looked at now. We (his parents, brother, and me) finally convinced him to at least see the doctor so he went in on Friday only to be told that it was probably broken and he would need an x-ray to confirm. So Saturday he went and got an x-ray. On Tuesday, the results came back that it was indeed broken and he would need to see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. I insisted on going with him today (I wanted to hear for myself what the doctor said). The doctor was pretty insistent on "surgery" (no cutting, just lifting and putting the bones back in place), so that's what we decided to do. He was scheduled for surgery at 6:00 p.m. tonight. I was a little nervous that they wouldn't be able to fix it since it's been almost two weeks, but everything went well and the doctor was able to get it straightened out. Hopefully he's not in too much pain and it heals correctly!

Chloe's 1st Day of Preschool

Today was Chloe's first day of preschool. She was so excited and ready to go! All week she's been waiting and today was finally her day. I'm so glad I was able to take her - I almost missed it because of Calvin's doctor's appointment, but we finished just in time for me to take her. It was nice having already been through it with Aubrey because we knew the routine and what to do. Chloe seemed to transition easily into the classroom. I'm sure partly because Grandma was there, but partly too because she's seen Aubrey in that room for so long it just felt normal to be there. When I went to pick her up after school was over, I was standing in the hallway looking into the classroom and could see her sitting at her table watching for me. I waved to her and she got this huge smile on her face. She was so cute! She said she loves school and talked nonstop about the things they did. I'm so glad my girls love school - it makes it so much easier!

Aubrey's 1st Day of Kindergarten!

Today was the day that I've been dreading for the past few months - the first day of kindergarten. While Aubrey has been counting down the days because she's been so excited, I've been hoping to wait as long as possible. It's not that I don't want my baby girl to grow and learn, it's just that I hate that she'll be away from me more than she'll be with me. Plus, she's such an awesome helper, a great playmate for her sister, and is so helpful with Coye. It's going to be such an adjustment for us all. Today was only a half day so she came home before lunch. Thank goodness! I was very proud of myself. I was able to stay composed for the most part. It was hard to say goodbye to her in the classroom, even though she was perfectly fine, and I only teared up a little. It wasn't until after leaving her in her room when one of my friends asked how I was doing that I almost lost it. They had opening chapel this morning, but because Coye hadn't yet eaten, we went home. Poor boy, he had to get up early this morning (7:45 a.m.). Yesterday he didn't get up until 10:15 a.m. He's going to have to adjust his schedule according to school now. On the plus side, I was able to get my upstairs cleaned this morning before going to pick up Aubrey. The first thing she said was that she didn't want to come home - she wanted to stay all day. At least she loved school and is happy to be back. She had a great morning and is excited to stay all day tomorrow!
