Coye's Birthday Party

We had Coye's birthday party yesterday on his birthday. He took a great morning nap after church, so he was all ready to party when he woke up. We had dinner (Calvin grilled hamburgers and hot dogs) and then opened presents and had cake after that. Coye loved the cake and ate the entire smash cake he was given, plus a little ice cream. He didn't make as big a mess as I thought he would, but he did go straight into the tub when he was done. After everyone but my parents and sisters left, I went to put Coye down for a nap. He wasn't tired, so we came back downstairs. Then it started to storm. The power went out and we went to the basement for awhile. It blew and poured hard. We spent the rest of the evening without power. Poor Coye had to eat a birthday supper of bread, cheese, and fruit. Good thing he didn't care. He went to bed early since he missed his nap. The power eventually came back on at 9:30 p.m. It was quite a day!

Coye is ONE!

Coye turned one yesterday. One! It's crazy! I'm pretty sure this past year has gone by the fastest since I've had children. I feel like I blinked and poof a year went by. Coye has grown and changed so much in both looks and personality since his birth a year ago. He's such a sweet little boy who is developing his own little personality. He's definitely a daddy's boy unless daddy isn't around and then he'll settle for me. He hasn't started walking yet, but he does like to practice standing by himself. He has completed our family more than we could have ever imagined and we are so thankful to God for giving him to us. Here's what he's been up to this month:

He is starting to get a little personality and isn't quite as easy-going as he's been in the past. He will yell at us if he doesn't like something. He also likes to throw himself on the floor and throw a tantrum when something doesn't go the way he wants.
He has mastered crawling and is extremely fast at it. If you aren't paying attention to him, he will quickly crawl from place to place destroying and making messes as he goes. The steps have become a magnet for him and the gate has to be on the steps whenever he's awake or he'll make a beeline for them and try to climb up. He can go up, but it scares me to let him go on them by himself.
He also loves the bathroom and unrolling all of the toilet paper, pulling the magazines out of the basket, playing with the garbage, and pulling everything out of the drawers. Therefore the bathroom door is almost always closed now too.
He is very sensitive and doesn't like to be yelled at or told "no". Most of the time he will immediately get this very sad face and start crying. He's a lot like the girls in this sense, Aubrey especially.
He loves to practice standing on his own. He'll pull himself up to standing by something and then let go and just stand there until he feels like he's losing his balance. Today he stood there and took a step toward me and then fell the rest of the way. He'll walk if you hold his hands, but only for a short time. He knows he can crawl much faster and usually just drops to his knees and takes off.
He eats mostly table food, although he is still not a huge fan of meat. His favorite things to eat right now are bread, cheese, puffs, and yogurt melts. He prefers to drink apple juice over water.
He finally started sleeping through the night about a week and a half ago. I had cut out nursing him in the middle of the night, but he was still waking up until we went and stayed with Hannah and he's been sleeping through the night since. He will occasionally wake up in the middle of the night crying, but no more nursing during the night.
He loves the dishwasher and will come stand by it whenever it's open. He also loves to look out the front door and find Tess (our dog) or the cows in the pasture.
He would rather be with his dad than me.
His top teeth came in so now he has four teeth (two on bottom, two on top).

Bye Bye Shaggy Coye!

Coye's been sporting a pretty shaggy 'do for awhile. It's grown a lot since we got it cut 3 months ago. It was to the point that it just stuck out crazy because it would no longer lay right. Calvin's been after me for awhile to get it cut again but I was trying to wait until closer to his birthday and pictures. I finally couldn't take it any longer and went and got it cut. Last time he sat so still. This time was a different story. He had a lot more hair to cut, especially in the back and around his ears and he didn't want to sit still. I had to try to hold his head still and then I got out Cheerios finally which helped too (although it was hard trying to keep the hair from falling into the bowl). Once finished though, it looked so much better. Calvin of course doesn't think it's short enough, but I didn't want it too short yet. He's still a baby and I'm not ready for him to look too much older.

Trip to Hannah's

Last fall Hannah went to a consignment sale at a local church and found great deals on clothing for Gabe (and picked up a few things for Coye too). When she found out the information about their spring sale, she told me and I decided that it would be a great opportunity for me to get some things for both Aubrey and Coye (and a couple things for Chloe too). When I told mom about it, she said that she would ride along with me and then watch the kids so that Han and I could go by ourselves to the sale. I was really glad to have her along on the ride there. We haven't gone anywhere or spent the night anywhere but home since Coye's been born so the girls aren't used to riding in the car for a long period of time. We were only about 30 minutes into our 3 hour trip when they asked if we were almost there. :) They did really good and Coye wasn't too bad either for not having ridden in the car that long straight before. We didn't get there until really late Friday night because we had to wait for mom to get off work and the time change didn't help either. The next day we went to the sale, which was awesome. I got a lot of stuff for Aubrey, and some things for Coye and Chloe too. Definitely worth going. We then did some shopping. Like David said, I always have to shop when we go to a city. I had several returns to make and then I bought my pool chemicals for the summer and a new laptop. Our old one would only work with an external keyboard and an external mouse and it had to be plugged in or it would die (the battery is shot). We took the kids to the park to play for little bit since they had been so good all day. Sunday we went to church and then ate dinner before heading home. I even got to go to the grocery store by myself - I forgot how enjoyable shopping can be when you go alone. I

11 Months!

Coye turned 11 months almost a month ago. While I failed to blog about it, I did write down the things he was doing at the time in his baby book. Thank goodness or I would have forgotten what he did then compared to what he's doing now. Here's what he was up to at the time:

He is still getting up twice in the middle of the night to eat. He was down to eating once in the middle of the night, but when he got sick with bronchitis and wouldn't eat or drink much of anything, I fed him whenever he would eat.
He eats three meals a day, plus a snack in the afternoon. He will now eat bread, diced fruit, and noodles. He really likes to feed himself.
He gets mad when he is left by himself. He likes to have someone around all the time, even if it's just one of the girls.
He's figured out how to go up the stairs but doesn't know how to go back down.
He likes to open the drawers in the bathroom and empty them.
He's started cruising around things. I don't encourage it much because I'm not ready for him to walk yet. :)
He finally got two teeth on the bottom. He worked at them for quite a while and was pretty crabby off and on while they were coming in.
He figured out how to feed himself, which is quite handy. It's so nice to give him food on his tray and have him eat it without help.
He weaned himself off of his pacifier. He wasn't using it to sleep at all anymore, so I decided to take it away before he got reattached to it. He still gets excited when he sees other kids have them though and tries to take theirs away.
He was really sick the end of the month with bronchitis. Chloe had had a cold the previous week before Coye came down with a runny nose and cough on a Friday. He was super crabby all weekend so I decided to take him in to the doctor and have him checked. I'm so glad I did, because he ended up having bronchitis that was well on its way to pneumonia, according to the doctor. She put him on azithromycin for 5 days and he went back for a well check that Friday. The Monday we went to the doctor I couldn't get him to breastfeed at all or eat hardly anything. I was really worried about dehydration and that maybe he was going to wean himself of nursing too. I ended up pumping and giving him two bottles that day (crazy thing is the kid had never had a bottle before in his life but he sucked them down like he'd always had one) and got him to drink some pedialyte. I gave him one bottle the next day before he finally started nursing again. It took several days for him to get an appetite back and eat without throwing up (he had thrown up once a day for almost a week because of all the drainage he had going on). It was a really long week of him wanting to be held most of the time. I was so glad when he finally started feeling better.

Easter

I know it's been way too long since my last blog post. In my defense, we had computer problems for about a week and a half so I didn't even have my computer to use. Now I'm working on getting caught up on things and blogging has been on my list for several weeks. I just don't know where the time goes and why I don't seem to have enough time during the day to get things done. Hmmm....maybe children have something to do with it? :)

Easter this year was different than it's been in the past, mostly due to the fact that mom and dad live closer. It was so nice to go to their house and eat dinner rather than having to host it myself. The kids and I went down the Saturday before Easter to color eggs and visit. We stayed most of the afternoon but then had to leave before dinner to go and pick up Danielle from the train. Easter morning we woke up and went to Easter breakfast and church at St. Paul's, and then drove to mom and dad's. The weather was beautiful and sunny, so the girls were able to hunt for Easter eggs outside. They loved it! We even got to walk down to the park near the lake and sit there while the girls played some.
